| Pregnancy Solutions is a ministry of the
parish family of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Its ministerial counselors
are members of the parish and of the Roman Catholic Church. This unity
in basic belief provides the context for our approach to this important
issue. This ministry is essential to who we are as a parish, for I do
not believe we are able to be vocally and unequivocally pro-life if
we are not willing to help those in problem pregnancies both during
the pregnancy and after the birth of the child. No woman wants an abortion,
many believe that they have no alternative. Pregnancy Solutions is established
to show that there are alternatives and that all of the alternatives
are better than abortion. It is a ministry that is intended to be pragmatic,
faithful, and supportive. While non-judgmental and non-political as
a ministry of this parish, it firmly offers the position of the Body
of Christ that all life is sacred, and part of the "seamless garment"
of life intended by the Creator, and Redeemed by the Savior. As a ministry,
Pregnancy Solutions is not involved in the need to confront the issue
of abortion politically, but personally (political outreach is the work
of the entire parish in general, and the pro-life and legislative advocacy
subcommittees of the Peach and Justice Committee in particular).
For a teenager, a single woman, or a couple in distress, a pregnancy can be anything but the joyous occasion of new life that it is meant to be. Pregnancy Solutions seeks to reveal the joy often hidden in distress. It is a ministry that reminds the individuals involved that there are alternatives to abortion, that they do not have to face these alternatives alone, and that this community of faith, indeed the Lord himself, stand ready to help them bring life to its term.
