Confirmation
Year 2 Requirements & Calendar
Updated
9/28/06
Attendance--Must be
attending Sunday liturgy and partaking of the sacraments.
High School RE
(SYG/LIFETEEN)--Sessions
are held Sunday evenings from 6:10-8pm at St. Michael Hall.
Teens should not miss any more than 12. See SYG/LIFETEEN page for these
dates. "The process of preparation involves the young people in two
full years of participation in a regular religious education program
either in the parish or in a Catholic school. During the second year,
the regular religious education program is supplemented in the parish
with a full year of special formation that is separate and distinct
from the regular religious education program." (Called to Faith:
diocesan Guidelines For Sacramental Preparation 43)
Confirmation Year 2
Classes--these sessions are the supplemental Year 2 mandatory
preparation classes. They will be on Sundays and Tuesdays,
according to the attached calendar. If you miss more than 3 sessions
you will be dropped from the program. Missed classes must be made up.
If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, you will be counted as absent.
Retreat--must
attend scheduled retreat! This year the Year Two retreat is
in early January. The
retreat is mandatory and time should be saved immediately to guarantee
participation. Work schedules, school activities, sports, and SATs,
etc. can be adjusted with adequate notice. Start working now to clear
your calendar for those dates.
Mentors--Candidates
are assigned a mentor for their second year. Each teen is asked to
suggest a mentor. Mentors need to be adults active in our parish
community. Parents
cannot serve as mentors for their own children.
Letter--Candidates
express their desire to be confirmed with a letter to the pastor.
Information about the letter is given out in the springtime.
Interviews--There are
two. Interview 1 is at the end of the first year or prior to beginning
year two. Interview 2 is during the spring of the second year for those
wishing to be confirmed.
Service--all
second year students are required
to participate in two parish service projects. A list of
possible projects will be handed out in the beginning of the year.
Confirmation
Liturgy--the date and place of the celebration of the
sacrament is determined by the Bishop. As soon as we know, we will let
you know when that will be. It is generally sometime in the Easter
season.
