Fr. Christopher Masla will celebrate his Mass of Thanksgiving at Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Sunday, June 9 at 10:00am.
A plenary indulgence is granted a priest celebrating his first Mass with a congregation on a scheduled day. The same indulgence is granted the faithful who devoutly participate in that Mass.
An indulgence is the remission in the eyes of God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose culpable element has already been taken away. An indulgence is either plenary or partial, that is, it frees a person either from all or from some of the temporal punishment due to sins.
In order to gain indulgences, the person must have at least the general intention of doing so, and beside the exclusion of all attachment to sin the requirements for gaining a plenary indulgence are the performance of the indulgenced work and fulfillment of three conditions: sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayer for the pope’s intentions.
